In an effort to maximize security on the platform, OwnersRoom encrypts all files according to industry best practices. When you export a folder as a .zip file, we use encryption on this file to ensure that its contents are only available to the requester. The encryption used for .zip files uses a randomly generated password which is then sent to the requester as an email together with the download link.

When attempting to extract this file on Windows, you may receive the following error:

This is because the file extractor that comes bundled with Windows does not support the encryption scheme used by OwnersRoom (AES-256). Instead it supports a different scheme (ZipCrypto) which is widely considered insecure and therefore not supported by OwnersRoom.

The solution to this problem is to use another program for extracting the .zip file such as 7zip (free), WinRAR or WinZip.

MacOS supports extracting encrypted .zip files so this may also be an option.
